(C) 2004 Nigel Farrow Stowmarket Striders Scenic 7

Next race........................

Sunday 9th November 2008 11:02am
(Remembrance Sunday)

 Barnards Volkswagen

Introduction

The Stowmarket Striders Scenic 7 is a relatively flat 7 mile course with only a couple of undulations.  The course heads out past Onehouse to Harleston.  The race loops round and back to Harleston before returning along the same route past Onehouse and back to the finish.  Check the course map to familarise yourself with the route.

We are generously sponsored by Barnards (Volkswagen) of Stowmarket. We hope you all enjoy the race and welcome any comments (good ones of course!) and suggestions you may have.

Directions

The race headquarters and start is at the Mid-Suffolk Leisure Centre in Stowmarket.  Click here for a street map of the area.

Travel Directions from Ipswich

Please take this route as it avoids the town centre and Remembrance Day parades.

From Ipswich take the A14 towards Bury St Edmunds.  Take the 1st exit marked for Stowmarket on the A1120, and turn left at the roundabout.  Continue straight over the next roundabout and down the hill on the dual-carriage way.  Taking the right-hand lane turn right at the bottom of the hill.  At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit along Gipping Way and carry on straight across the traffic lights (Barnards on the right). DO NOT turn left at the traffic lights. At the next roundabout take the second exit onto Bury Road. Pass the Vets and Football Club and go straight on at the next roundabout (onto the on-slip onto the A14 towards Bury St Edmunds). 50 metres after the roundabout turn left onto Chilton Way.  At the end of this road turn left down Onehouse Road and then next left into Gainsborough Road and the Leisure Centre.

NOTE: If you miss the left turn up Chilton Way you will carry straight on to the A14 westbound. If this happens turn round when it is safe and legal to do so and follow "Travel directions from Bury St Edmunds".

Travel Directions from Bury St Edmunds - From the A14 take the first exit marked for Stowmarket on the A1302.  At the roundabout turn right and take the next left up Chilton Way.  At the end of this road turn left down Onehouse Road and then next left into Gainsborough Road and the Leisure Centre.

Car parking is available at the Leisure Centre.  Please do not park on the road.

Facilities

Changing, toilets and showers are available at the Leisure Centre.  The leisure centre offers additional facilities such as a bar and café, and for those more energetic - a swimming pool (additional fee payable at reception).

We hope to have masseurs available after the race to ease those 7 miles out of your legs!  They are independent of the race organisation.

The Race

There are no long walks to the start of the race, being very close to the Leisure Centre.  Please note that the race is on Remembrance Sunday and we would be grateful if you would join us in observing 2 minutes silence at 11:00am.  The race will start at 11:02.

The police have requested that all runners keep to the left hand side of the road unless told otherwise.

The Red Cross will be present for those requiring medical attention.  If you see anyone in distress during the race, please advise a race marshal as soon as possible to call for medical assistance.

A copy of the risk assessment will be available on the race notice board.  SEAA Permit Number 6581 under UKA rules.  The course is certified accurate (SEAA 03/079).

Results

We will endeavor to display as many of the results as possible on the race notice board as competitors complete the race, and after the race.

Full results will be available from this website (www.stowmarketstriders.org.uk) in the week following the race.  A postal results service may also be available.  Previous years results:-
