  Woodbridge Cross Country

2nd December 2001

A cold day that became deceptively mild with the sun and couple of miles of cross country.  This year saw a course change (another!?) due to the after effects of Foot and Mouth, and had almost everything a cross country could throw at the club runners.  Ditches, Hurdles, Mud, Sand, dodging trees and disappearing sand mounds...?

It appears that only a few of the leaders and back markers managed to come across the infamous sand mounds, for which most of us reserved that little bit for.  So what happened to them?  Well it appears with the lack of a marshal that most of us ran straight past the turning and found the course at the other side!  Luckily for the race that no changes to the leader board resulted in this omission!

A better day for the Striders, but what about the inter-club rivalry?  It appears that Peter and Gordon still have their horns locked taking 1st and 2nd places for the over 50 men's category, leaving them level pegging on 19 points!  Colin again gets 2nd place in the over 40 category.

For the ladies over 50 category, Anne Fish, Anne Fellingham and Sue Seggar capture 3rd to 6th places again.

Edward Tricker also deserves a mention being the 1st 11 year old in for the 2nd race with his time of 20.58 placing him 14th behind many 14 year olds.

Here are the Stowmarket Striders results:-

A better race for the Striders with the Men's team grabbing back 2 places and an improvement overall to 4th.  The leader board is already taking shape with a battle for 1st and 2nd between Flying Shufflers and St Edmund Pacers A with 49 points separating them.  A second battle for 3rd place is between Felixstowe, Waveney Valley & Lowestoft and ourselves.  Waveney Valley / Lowestoft lead us by 31 points with Felixstowe a mere 2 points behind!!  The closest battle is for the ladies who are now a measly 1 point behind Suffolk Harriers!!

Everything to play for then!?
