Framlingham
XC
27th October 2002 I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly have not run a race in storm force winds before! As should be expected with the Framlingham cross country, there is always some natural extraordinary weather condition that makes this 20 times harder than it already is. Previous years I've know involves water and lots of it, making the mud particularly bad. This year it was the storm force winds. The race course had to be changed at the last moment as minutes before the start a tree was blown over somewhere on the top part of the course. This meant 3 laps of the moat and that muddy hill! Not sure if running in this wind was a good idea, we started. Taking it a little easy, the ground was muddy but not a bad as previous years but the wind was so strong it blew you back around the castle moat. The only saving grace was that it did help you up the concrete steps out of the deep moat. Then when you just got used to the wind, then came the sideways rain! Oh joy - this must by why I continue to run this race! This was a good turn up and a valiant effort in the team results with the usual teams of St Edmund Pacers, Waveney & Bungay and Flying Shufflers leading the way. The overall leader at the first stage however goes to the Newmarket Joggers by a delicate 3 points. Ahead of the Striders by 41 points are the flying shufflers and behind are Lowestoft by 75 points.
