19th January 2003 Well the weather wasn't going to disappoint with 4 out of 4 races raining during the race. For a reasonably flat country side, I was impressed as to how many mounds of sand they managed to find in the park. Again, I enjoyed the run but after speaking with other runners there were some concerns with the race. The short steep slope a few hundred yards into the race was mayhem, being far too close to the start that simply lead to frustrating congestion. The second was the amount of low and protruding branches that lanky runners like me risked running into. Despite this, there were no injuries I heard of and many found the sandy and muddy course tough. As for the Striders, we were disappointingly short of our faster male runners that meant a poor 6th place for the men's race. In contrast, the ladies were outstanding in achieving second. This of course may be partly due to the traveling distance that appeared evident with a smaller field of runners. Details of individual performances will follow shortly...
