Round Norfolk Relay

This year the Striders raised two teams for the Round Norfolk Relay - a club team and a masters team. To enter two teams we needed 34 runners, over 40 helpers (driving, time-keeping, cycling, taxiing etc) and nearly 30 cars. Every runner was in the right place at the right time and both teams made it successfully to the finish. Although there was no official competition between the two teams its fair to say that the moral victory went to the masters team who were, on average, seven years older but only six minutes slower than the club team. Over the 193.06 miles that works out at only 1.9 seconds a mile slower.

There were the usual moments of excitement when we were threatened with disqualification for not having a cyclist where we should have done and when the stopwatch stopped (twice) and as usual the weather was perfect and the North Norfolk coastal legs were challenging for the runners. The night legs were dark and even my leg from Wissington Sugar Beet factory to Heygates factory in Downham Market had a certain romantic atmosphere as I saw the sun rise over West Dereham.

Thanks must go to Debbie who successfully pulled off the logistic nightmare of organising the two teams, also thanks to everyone who ran and thanks to all the people who helped in all sorts of ways to make it another memorable event for the club.
