Sunday 20th March 2011 saw the very first Striders Cross Country Introducton to Racing start at 10am. The aim of the event was to introduce racing to those that have never done it before. Having said that all Striders were welcome and it was good to see some of our very experienced runners joining in too.
The course took our 27 runners around one lap of the Haughley Park Cross Country race circuit, which after a last minute shift of the finish line, (due to health & safety reasons), was a little under 2.5 miles long, (to be precise it was 2.3 miles). Included in those 27 runners was 8 year old Izzy Beer, who very abily ran the whole way - a great start to a promising new club member hopefully?
A big thank you to Peter Tricker for making the race happen and to all those very many marshalls that turned out to mark the route and support the racers on the way round. We hope our racers enjoyed the event and found it enough of a confidence booster to join their fellow Striders in some of the very many races we take part in, especially the Friday 5's - even if it's to be a valuable marshall.
Hopefully this will be the first of an annual event? |
