Race Report
The very first Joe Cox half Marathon took place on Easter Sunday in very interesting running conditions. The heavy snow that began falling at about 8.00am deterred all but the hardiest of runners. Only 140 of the 270 runners who had entered in advance came along for the race and so it took place with a much smaller field than expected.
However, after consulting the race referees and local police the race was given the all clear and started on time at 11.00am. The snowfall persisted until well into the race. (Actually it was at it's heaviest during the junior fun runs). For the second half of the race the snow had stopped and the roads had started to clear and considering the conditions underfoot the times were not too bad. Congratulations to Will Speake of Bildeston who led the men's race from start to finish and to Tamara Jordan who did the same in the ladies race. The team prize went to Stowmarket Striders (Richard Jordan, Nick Stephens and Tamara Jordan).
Thank you to everyone who ran and helped - especially the marshals who had to stand out for up to three hours in some pretty unpleasant conditions (It was character building for them). Thanks also to our sponsors Tomlinson Grouncare. All profits will be donated to the MS charity in memory of Joe Cox.
This was the first ever Joe Cox Half Marathon at a brand new venue.
